Clyde

Tucked between a unique rugged schist rock landscape not found in any other part of New Zealand. The historic gold mining town, settled in the 1860’s, is situated at the entry of the Cromwell Gorge. Just below the Clyde Hydro-electric dam and Lake Dunstan. Only a small distance away from Alexandra, the commercial hub of Central Otago.

With the mighty Clutha River flowing majestically alongside the small, friendly township. The towns museums and parks are very popular tourist attractions, as are simple strolls around the historic township.

The region displays the extremes of each season with the landscape being transformed every three months either to the great blossom and wild thyme flowers of spring, the searing heat and the barren landscape of summer, the kaleidoscope of colours of the autumn leaves or the harsh unforgiving frosts of winter.
