Dunedin Profile

About halfway between the equator and the south pole, Dunedin sits at 46 degrees south. For a population of close to one hundred thousand, reaching 125,000 when University of Otago students are in session, Dunedin has more land space than any other city in the country and more than all but one other city in the world, over 3000 square kilometres.

We are proudly multicultural. International students from 70 countries choose to make Dunedin their home while they study.

We enjoy the longest summer daylight hours in New Zealand and long summer evenings are one of the cities great attractions. Temperatures regularly climb into the mid twenties and higher.

It can snow in the winter, but not very often or for a long period of time. Our climate is fairly mild, not extreme.
